The FOSS Sustainability Fund makes targeted investments in the long-term maintainability, interoperability, reproducibility, security, and resilience of the internet freedom technology ecosystem. This ecosystem includes amongst other technologies, circumvention tools (like VPNs), secure messaging apps, shutdown-resilient tools, anti-censorship and privacy-preserving technologies, as well as these tools’ foundational software infrastructure.

The Internet Freedom Fund supports innovative internet freedom projects, including technology development, research, digital security projects, and convenings.

The Rapid Response Fund aims to resolve threats in a timely manner for individuals, communities, and organizations facing digital attacks and emergencies. OTF offers both direct financial support and technical services to those at high-risk, such as cyber activists, bloggers, journalists, and human rights defenders.

The Security Lab creates a safer online environment for people in repressive contexts by making the tools they use more secure.

The User Experience & Discovery (UXD) Lab provides user-experience research and design support to internet freedom projects.

The Impact & Engagement Lab helps technology-focused internet freedom projects effectively communicate about their work in order to contribute to audience adoption in the world’s most information-repressive contexts. We also share the knowledge created through projects so others can iterate and build on their work to advance internet freedom.
