Two masked shooters were being hunted by police after at least 13 people were hospitalized following a suspected mass attack on Sunday night at a "Funday" party near Arcadia Lake, just north of Oklahoma City, according to authorities and media.

Edmond police said shots were reported around 9 p.m. at a gathering of young people at the Scissortail Campground near the lake, a popular recreational spot in the Oklahoma City metro area. No arrests had been made late Sunday as police fanned out across the region to interview victims and witnesses. Hospital officials said those injured were in various conditions and were still being assessed overnight.

"This is obviously a very terrifying situation and we understand the concern from the public and those involved and we are working extremely hard to find the suspects," Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward said.

"We’re kind of all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses," she added.

Two men wearing ski masks opened fire, police said, according to KOKH.

Newsweek contacted Edmond police department and Arcadia Lake park authorities via email on Monday for comment.

Investigation Expands Across Metro Area

An update shared by Ward with Newsweek on Monday via email stated that the incident occurred during an unsanctioned party that began after dark and was advertised across multiple social media platforms, drawing a large crowd of young adults from across the metro area. The event was not a permitted or reserved gathering. The update stated: "At this time, approximately 23 people have been identified with injuries ranging in severity, including gunshot wounds."

Ward said authorities received multiple emergency calls reporting multiple shots at the gathering, which triggered a large multiagency response involving Edmond Police, Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Edmond Fire, as reported by The Associated Press.

While police did not provide details about the party, a flyer seen on social media after the shooting suggested that an event called Sunday Funday had been scheduled near the lake Sunday evening, said the AP.

Ward confirmed that at least 10 people were transported to area hospitals by ambulance, with additional victims believed to have made their own way to medical facilities.

Ten people were at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and three were at Integris Health Edmond Hospital, according to a hospital system spokesperson.

Ward said that patients were being treated in "various conditions."

"At this time I don’t have a condition on anyone as far as fatality or not," she said.

She added that investigators remained active across the region into the night and would continue into the following day.

Police also confirmed that no suspects were in custody.

Arcadia Lake Draws Attention to Public Setting

Arcadia Lake, located on the Deep Fork River, is located around 13 miles north of Oklahoma City, and is a human-made reservoir used for flood control and widely known as a recreational destination. The area offers fishing, boating, camping and picnicking, and sits within Edmond, a suburb of about 100,000 people.

The fact the shooting occurred at a gathering near a popular public recreation site has heightened concern locally, with authorities still working to establish what led to the violence and how many suspects may be involved.

A Rare Episode of Violence in a Low‑Crime City

Edmond is generally regarded as a low‑crime community. The city is best known nationally for a 1986 mass shooting at a U.S. Post Office, in which a postal worker killed 14 coworkers before taking his own life—one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history.

Ongoing Uncertainty As Investigation Continues

As of late Sunday, police said there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the wider public, but they urged anyone with information to come forward.

Officers remain focused on interviewing victims and witnesses and gathering any available evidence from the scene and surrounding area.

Authorities have said updates will be provided as the investigation develops.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Edmond Police Department at (405) 359-4438.
